Need a variation of the Constant function

I am animating something with a constant function in the channel editor, rather than the usual bezier.

However, it causes all kinds of problems, especially with simulations because there are no intermediate steps between pose changes.

Is there a way to use a function that is near constant, but continuous and smooth? Perhaps with an adjustable interpolation? A kind of continous step function :?

Haven't tried this, but you could probably run it thru CHOPs, doing some sort of smooth function on it? Maybe even the new motionfx?

Wow! Thanks eetu. I didn't know about motionfx. I had a quick test and it looks like exactly what I need. I'll do some more testing on it. Very excellent feature.
