Facet question,

When you use a facet sop and use cusp edge it harderns the edge but it also makes double points like when you use unique points.

If you do this to make an edge hard and then use the fuse sop to make it a seamless mesh it goes back smooth.

Is there a way to make hard edges without making more points ?

Thanks

there is one trick you can use for now
since Mantra supports Vertex Normals (i think from 9.1) you can:

Cusp Polygons with Facet SOP and Post-Compute normals
AttribPromote SOP - Point Normals to Vertex
Fuse SOP

you will see it as smooth in viewport, but it'll render as you saw it right on Facet SOP
because Mantra will use Vertex Normals for rendering and they are kept intact after fusing points

Sorted it thanks.

Thought there would have been a modelling tool to do this in houdini, like smoothing groups in 3ds max which keeps the model seamless.
