Im testing Houdini's fur tools against Maya and our inhouse stuff.

So far its been fun however I am having some problems with combing symmetry.

It doesn't seem to reflect properly. How does the reflection work? Is there a relationship to the uv's?

ps. What is the “rotational” option do?

More specifically If I comb in the z direction it works on both sides… however if I comb in the x direction the fur combs almost like its trying to go the same way in world space instead of going opposite on the other side.

It seems that the comb is controlled by a vector attrib called “furdirection”. If you use an attrib mirror you can mirror it correctly.

This is simple enough which brings the question about the comb tool. Is this a bug with the comb tool or is there something I'm missing?

A bug in the Comb SOP was responsible for this behaviour. It was fixed in Houdini 10.0.463.
