Been trying to figure this out for a while now…

HOW DO I ORIENT A PIVOT TO FACE NORMALS????

So…i think I tried everything I can think of..and searched the entire known www.

The closest I get is Align Handel > Start Orientation Picking but the pivot then moves to the intersecting point. How do I orient the pivot to the face normal?

in the image…

the Default orients to either WORLD, OBJECT or CAMERA
What I get is what I get using the Start Orient Picking
What I want is the end goal…(i got it by eye balling it into place)

If anyone has any info on this please let me know

thanks all

If you follow these instructions it should work…(i think)

- select primitive
- tab -> transform
- get in to the pivot mode (“-key)
- select two edges (the transformer should now be aligned to your surface)
- get out of pivot mode (”-key again)
- rmb the transform again and then select snap to -> centroid

thanks for the quick response.

Pagefan you are the man!! That worked! well…kinda…works well enough.

I wanted to be able to align the pivot using the "edit“ node but I guess the ”xform“ is okay. The issue is the ”edit“ node doesn't have ”SNAP to CENTROID“ option, the ”xform" does.

is there a request a feature option on sidefx xD

anyway,

thanks guys

There you go:

a +1 for me as well…

You could move the edit transform sort of to the center with the translate arrows (still in pivot mode) or create some helper geometry but that slows modeling down considerably.

In the Edit Sop, if you want to move a face in a direction parallel to the normal, use the Peak Handle instead of the Transform/Rotate handle.
