Hi,

If I created a Voronoi fracture simulation on a statue with smoke, and /or dust. (Similar to the tutorial on Digital Tutors for Controlling Your Fractures)

Could I then transfer it to Maya somehow to comp it with live action and also render everything there? If so would it be the Alembic transfer that would allow for that, making the sim playable in maya?

Please let me know if I'm totally wide of the mark, can't find anything concrete about this.

I noticed at the Escape VFX festival that he (one of Assassins Creed trailer artists) was playing a Houdini Fluid Sim in Maya and spoke of rendering it with Mental Ray.

This would be a big help as I know how to do all the things I want to do in Maya - in Maya.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

You can export your fractures pieces to Maya with Alembic format ,That's works good for exporting objects like polygon's model.

But I think you can't export volume object like smoke or dust (PyroFX) via alembic format :?

The simple and best way is to use Houdini Engine to import your volume in the Maya and render it with Mental Ray !!!

You can create a DA for your dynamic and Pyro simulations and import this DA (otl file) in the Maya with Houdini Engine 8)
