I've asked this on the list but I'm also throwing it out here to the forum…need some help with curriculum design question here at the college…
How are you using nurbs..not just with Houdini… I'm also interested how you may deal with nurbs from other packages in your pipeline.

The only place I've really used NURBs from other packages is importing paths (usually motion paths, but sometimes hair curves). At a previous job, we'd occasionally get old assets reused from past shows that were still Nurbs.

I haven't found that I use NURBS directly in Houdini either. The only “NURBs” SOP I use on a regular basis is the Carve SOP, which works with polylines too.

It's interesting how some people use nurbs for all sorts of tasks, especially as part of procedural models, but others avoid them entirely…an age thing perhaps…..perhaps houdini engine will change attitudes?
