Hi. This is my first post here, so I'd like to say hi, and I hope to gain some knowledge from users who know more than I do, and maybe share some of mine too if I can.

I've been using C4D for about 6 years, and have become frustrated with it's lack of tools for VFX and dynamic simulations. Houdini has some amazing results for things like fracturing and fluids, so I'm going to start here.

So I've started by importing a beer bottle which I'd like to explode. I've started with a ground plane, and have a sphere moving towards the bottle to smash it. I've added a static object to the sphere and a rigid body solver to the bottle. When I hit play, the bottle starts to break from the first frame, the the sphere collides. I can't work out how to have the bottle only fracture when the sphere collides with it. Please could somebody point me in the right direction here?

Down the line I'm going to try to learn how to full the bottle with liquid and have it simulate with the glass fracture.

Thanks in advance!

If you have a pre-fractured object you probably should start with an RBD Glue object and not an RBD Fractured object, and look into setting your glue strength.

If you don't want to use a glue object you can set you sim start in the autodop node to the frame the sphere collides. Then use a switch node to switch between your unfractured object and the simulation at the appropriate frame. Sometimes the glue stuff is a bit too fiddly for simple simulations.
