Undistorting displaced UVs (need some help understanding)

I'm doing a fracture wall, and I have to projection the plate on a wall. I'm following a workflow described here.

I'm having trouble understanding how to move the uvs back into place after displacement. In the example there from Rayman, he managed move them back, however when I replicate the displacement, my uvs don't come back to my initial position and my projection is distorted.

I can't upload my shot, but it would help immensely if someone could talk me through it.

Anyone been through this before?
