I Need some vector displacement maps turned into greyscale Images. An ocean Needs to get rendered in Octane and it has ist Problems with vector maps. Is there a good way or some Programm to to this? Is it recommended at all in Terms of Image Quality to convert those maps?
Depending on if the displacement channel order is XZY or XYZ, use either the green or blue channels to create a monochromatic, displace-along-normal map. This only works for tangent-space maps. It won't match the actual vector displacement, but you can't match it with a greyscale map anyways.
