After having non stop issues with fedora and no fix on the sight I figured to try Rocky linux as well.
This time had only 2 libs missing, easy install. Launcher installed fine, and Houdini as well, lic server all good using sidefx as lic server.
But now after I try to start I get this:

No OpenCL platform has the specified device type (HOUDINI_OCL_DEVICETYPE): GPU.
Falling back to built-in CPU OpenCL driver (see HOUDINI_USE_HFS_OCL)
45006: Fatal error: Segmentation fault (sent by pid 0)
Crash log saved to /tmp/houdini_temp/crash.untitled.cgoven_45006_log.txt

Got propitiatory NVIDIA drivers installed.
Any ideas/help?
Thanks

You could try putting

HOUDINI_USE_HFS_OCL=0

into your houdini.env file.
(it can be found in your homedir unter ~/houdini19.0/ )

See if that works for you.

That did the trick. What does that do exactly, turn of something or?
Thanks

The Houdini installation comes with an integrated OpenCL driver. Setting it to 0 will disable this and fall back to the one on your system (at least that's how I understand it).
With the proprietary nvidia driver on Linux this has always been necessary for me to do to get it to work, but when doing it, it works flawlessly and perfectly.

I never had this issue before on fedora, this is first time I see this problem.
But since 19 came out there are problems with fedora starting it so figured to try this. thanks
