If you're in the stage viewport, looking through a camera with the camera handle activated, middle mouse sometimes pans the camera rotation only. It seems like it might also rotate around the geo under the mouse, but it seems random when it decides to.
Looks like it works under the object viewport too, but if you click on the right side of the viewport, it goes into crazy mode. The left side seems to do what you want though.
Camera rotation from camera view ?

tamteYou're right. This is the best way to approch this in houdini.
First Person rotation sounds like exactly what you are asking for and it has straightforward M shortcut
But always have to think not to touch left mouse button when M isn't pushed. Would be better not having this left mouse button trap, because this is the most used mouse button.
And about 30 years of muscle memory doesn't help.
tamtelol, I read too fast. Didn't see there was a quote. Anyway it was a good sentence to bounce off
lol, no need to take stuff out of context, that was reaction to animatrix_'s post

Thanks to all of you.
I know now I didn't miss this feature wich is the more natural way of framing when you use tu use real cameras. And wich exists on every other 3d softwares I used.

Jipyou can also set it up it differently, if you set Look Around mode for FPN to Mouse Movement you don't ever need to press the LMB
But always have to think not to touch left mouse button when M isn't pushed. Would be better not having this left mouse button trap, because this is the most used mouse button.
press M, look around, press again to get back (again, what's missing is hold M look around, release)
