Attribute Randomize parameter question

In the Attribute Randomize node, If I randomize velocity (Attribute Name: v), the parameters show Dimensions: 3 and four fields for the Min/Max Value.
The first three of these field are presumably XYZ, but what is the fourth field for?

Some data types like quaternions(xyzw) and color(rgba) are vector4. If your dimensions are less than 4 the extra values are unused.
