I have a MAC. I exported this MAYA file (http://www.creativecrash.com/downloads/3d-models/geography/c/wave-pro-1-5–2) [creativecrash.com] as a FBX in MAYA, but when I imported it into HOUDINI, I lost the Animation. Can you please give me step by step directions on how to export this MAYA file from MAYA so that I can import it into HOUDINI without losing the animation? I think I can import the file successfully into HOUDINI if I export the MAYA file as an OBJECT SEQUENCE (and use a FILE NODE to read it), but I do not know how to export files in MAYA as OBJECT SEQUENCES.

If you know how to import MAYA FILES into HOUDINI from MAYA - can you please complete this task and attach the HOUDINI file in your response?

You can export a point cache from Maya to Houdini with FBX.
Don't forget to create a Maya selection set for the geometry to bake the animation.

I do not see the option for exporting files as POINT CACHE. How do I do that? Can you please take the MAYA FILE listed in my 1st post and import it in HOUDINI and upload the HOUDINI File onto this forum?

I am unable to open a file that ends with: .RAR

Can you please change the file to a HOUDINI file?

I can download HOUDINI files that end in: .HIPNC or .HIP

RAR is an archieve format, try this software:

http://www.chip.de/downloads/WinRAR-32-Bit_12994655.html [chip.de]

For most Linux Distros, there are unrar tools, too. Use Google…

Another workflow for excahning files between Maya and Houdini is using the SD format from RealFlow. SD is faster and more lightweight than FBX.

Just download a demo of RealFLow on www.realflow.com. This gives you access to the plugins. With teh plugin, there comes the SD importer/ erxporter.

I have a MAC, so I cannot install any LINUX or WINDOWS software.

I do not have REAL FLOW - I have HOUDINI.

This is the HOUDINI forum, not the REAL FLOW forum. I am not going to download REAL FLOW. I want to learn HOUDINI, not REAL FLOW.

If you know how to import MAYA FILES into HOUDINI from MAYA - can you please complete this task and attach the HOUDINI file in your response?

http://www.houdinistuff.com/ [houdinistuff.com]

this link has a bgeo exporter for maya.

OR you could google to see if you can find a script for exporting an .obj sequence (i remember there being a few of these online somewhere)

OR you can take a look at your fbx exporting options. Somewhere in there you can export animation, but i cannot remember exactly how. I think there is a check box which says “animation” that you need to turn on.
