TOTAL DURATION: 1h 6m 38s

In this lesson, you will smash a wine glass then slow down time to hold onto the big splash. This effect involves both an RBD simulation for the shattered glass and a fluid simulation for the wine. You will learn how to set up the dynamic simulations. Visual effect shots often involve a combination of different solvers.

You will also use a retime node to slow down the simulation when it is at its most explosive then reverse time to return to the starting point. You will then move the simulations into Solaris/LOPS, set up lights and a camera, then render the shot using the Karma XPU renderer.

This lesson includes a step-by-step PDF which you can use to follow along the lesson supported by video tutorials.

Hey man, thanks for the tutorial i really enjoyed the process and the tutorial was a good stepping stone for beginners i loved the pacing that you taught in One thing i would like to point out is you could have included how to change the resolution and and the orientation.

Really enjoyed, thanks so much. My fluid turned out pretty "gloopy" though. Trying to figure out why and I'm wondering it it's the scale because my wineglass ended up about 7meters tall from what I can see. That also made the fluid really big. Did I miss a step? I tried re-watching and I didn't see anything about that. Thanks again

    hello,
thank you for that tuto, but retiming doesn't work in wine_sim = everything jumps away .. is that because of 20.5 version I use? other? I tried many times following your tuto..

    thanks

Oh, no way, dude! For some reason, your comment appeared right after I posted mine about the same issue. Did you find a solution? I guess nobody is going to help us in the coming days since it's Christmas.

I should also mention that I use Houdini 21, so perhaps there's something we both missed. I also haven't found anything in the step-by-step PDF guide.

I solved it, read my comment bellow in a different thread. I hope this will help you as well.

Hey, hey! I'm stuck on lesson 4 at the point where I need to add the copied Retime Node to the wine simulation - for some reason, the liquid is no longer static and is moving throughout the volume, as if the retime animation is hanging its position. Has anyone else encountered this and knows how to solve the problem?

I noticed one thing in the PDF step-by-step guide on page 11, step 7: the collision settings are described, but I don't see them in the nodes. These settings were probably exist in older Houdini versions.

        SOLVED!
        What I did:
        1. Changed Storage Type to Points in the Fluid Compress node (missed this step during the tutorial, not sure if that actually the cause)
        2. In the file cache, saved the entire thing to disk once again
