Hi,

I am new to houdini
I have a poly model imported from maya in obj format and I would like to convert it in an open structure where I use the edges to form like a metal frame
what is the simplest way to do that in houdini?

thx
bart

The above example has duplicate edges. An unwanted side-effect of primitives with shared edges.

H12 makes it pretty simple to get rid of shared edges with the new Poly Doctor SOP. I also like to use the Carve SOP instead of Ends SOP when building new geoemtry from edges of incoming objects.

See the attached file for a clean single edge result along with an example of sweeping a custom profile along each backbone with controlled orientation to get a metal frame composed of “I” beams.

Hope this gives you a few ideas.

Also, if you're after watertight connected geomtery, like a bike frame, there's the Polywire SOP.
