I'm using the Enviroment light shelf tool to light my scene with a HDR but the scene is either too dark or comes out red. I didnt have this kind of issue with a previous HDR that i accidently deelted but now i cant seem to get decent lighting.

Even after tweaking the name of the file (some how it effected the render) the scene is still very poorly lit. If i start to increase the intensity it starts to look very unnatural.

You realize a JPG is not an HDRi image, right?

The previous image may have been an actually HDRi.

Just pull down a real HDRi and give it another try.

That blush pink color is mantra's “could not find the texture” color. So at least in the last two images, it's not finding your env map.

I managed to get the images to display in the background so wouldnt that indicate that the file has been found?
and yet im still getting my scene to render with a very blue colour?

Maybe you accidentally checked on the ‘Enable Sky Environment Map’?
