Hi, I've noticed houdini is forcing all of my textures into the .rat format. Is there a way to disable this behavior? Are there texture formats that I can use that will bypass this step? tiff, txr, exr?

Thanks!

Hmm.. I have never noticed that. How are you detecting that your textures are being converted? Do they show up in a folder after the render has completed?

Mantra uses its internal .rat format. I dont think you can disable this. its using iconvert to convert the images.

from odforce:
“Mantra will convert any of the other specified formats it can read to RAT format internally in order to produce higher quality images which exhibit better filtering. ”

The right way to handle this is to pre-convert your textures to rat (using the iconvert or icp-tools sitting on your $HFS) and assign those to your shaders instead.

This way they won't get converted every frame.

Mantra uses no other formats besides rat, so one way or another, it has to be done.

Thanks. Good to know.

If you set your render statistics verbosity to 3, you'll see the image conversions.
