I tried to use “polysplit” and here is my problem :

Hi, I've been doing a lot of modelling in Houdini the past month and have come across the same issue. There are also other issues with PolySplit edge loop like;
a) working in symmetry is difficult. (it could use a mirror option like the edit sop) One workaround is to set Edge Loop to use number of loops (1) on each side (using two PolySplits) and use edit sop with mirror
b) needing to set location in viewport introduces a “destructive” issue to the workflow. (if you change geometry above the node, you often need to redo the loop location) There are probably better methods than manually setting the location but I'm not sure.
I found that using a Boolean sop gets rid of both problems. In your example it works but it may not be suitable for everything. I've attached a hip file.
