you simply assign some keywords to lights Categories parameter

then to any object you can add Light Selection parameter and specify keywords there as well

as a result that object will be illuminated just with lights containing any of the keywords on object

Same here, Id had a brush with them in the world of renderman ! . I will definitely have a look at getting them up and running.
