How do you specify jpeg render quality in H9?

I think the issue is the quality of the jpeg during the save to disk, not the render. In which case, look in
$HFS/houdini/FBoptions

There is a line in there that says
JPEG quality 75

Just change it to whatever you want.

Awesome thanks. But I know in H8 there is an option to choose the jpeg quality in the ROP. I wonder why they took that away for H9.

Really? Which ROP is that in, and where in there is it?

In 8.x there was a little turny-arrow for “Format Options” beside the the image field in the Mantra ROP which would expose many of the options for individual formats. IIRC Mark Elendt told me that it was going to return in a badder, better way for 9.0 but I think they simply ran out of time. I would assume its return is slated for 9.1 (is it, SESI?).

A great debugging tool is if your output is set to ip the little arrow will bring up an option for how mantra will render, from the middle (interactive), top to bottom or bottom to top. Every now and then problems only show up when rendering top down (or to file) due to delayed read archives or point clouds, since the order of the buckets matters.

When I get strange artifacts one of the first things I do is set it to render Top Down.
