I think I've seen a thread about this somewhere but I can't seem to find it now.

Is there a way to display how long a frame took to render when rendering to MPlay?

not as friendly of a way as maya's

on the mantra node, go to properties->statistics and set verbosity to 1
This will output the rendertime to the console.

annoying since the output is a little messy and makes it difficult to figure out which value belongs to which render once you've done several… but it's what we have…

There's also the Render Scheduler pane. It'll tell you how long a frame is taking to render.

Or add the new Render Time output layer AOV which gives you how long each pixel took to render, load in to COPs then sum all the pixel values for that render layer.

I find the new Render Time output very handy. It actually tells me where my render time is going.
There's at least one school like the old school!

Fancy, but I think that's a bit overkill for artists who just want to see how long their frames took when they get back from lunch.

I think adding the render duration to mplay would be a fantastic enhancement.

I fully agree, but in a human readable format, not like what is written to the shell.
