I need to by a “Houdini Apprentice/Escape Laptop” but I am having a difficult time trying to find a (Win 64-bit) device that has all the bells and whistles in SideFX's “System Requirements” webpage, such as “OpenGL”.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

opengl is a function of the graphics card…
just read up on the cards included with the systems you're looking at - there will be a description of the card's features…

example:

I checked out the graphics card(s) on the Dell site but did not see anything about OpenGL. Am I missing something (probably obvious!)? Thanks Arctor

if you go to the Tech Specs part of that page you'll see the cards listed
one of them > Quadro FX 3700M
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_quadro_fx_3700_m_us.html [nvidia.com]
lists :
The reference standard for OpenGL 2.1, DirectX 10, and Shader Model 4.0, Quadro FX 3700M enables next generation applications with new levels of interactivity to meet the demands of CAD engineers, graphics designers, and other technical design professionals.

^^^
OpenGL
you just have to hunt around and google a bit.

Hi,

I'm running Houdini on both Windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu 9.04 x64 on MSI GX-620, both single and dual screen - and not a single complaint from the software.

Cheers,
Greg

Ain't Mac a bit more expensive, with a comparable hardware?
