I've added some introductory videos on how Houdini handles Volumes, and a slightly more advanced set on Music driven animation using CHOPs on Vimeo. Hope they are useful.

Hi Peter,

Great stuff, always nice to see people contributing!

One comment, I notice a few tutorials have .hip files with them but some (PBR and Zdepth for example) don't have the .hip files with them. For those very new to Houdini this can be a deterrent

Cheers,

Just one correction on your chops lessons, houdini does recognize mp3 files.

Thanks for the feedback. Its really useful to get suggestions from the pros, particularly if anyone spots a mistake, which there are probably plenty of.

I'll add a note about mp3 files - I guess it was just that particular mp3 that produced an error - I didn't try multiple files. I'll also try to dig out the hip files, its very true about having the file to work with.

As to how I picked up what I know about Houdini, two years of study, and paying close attention to other great tutorials, and the forums

I noticed a small mistake in the PBR tutorial, in fact in 10 the Sampling and Ray Samples are separate from each other now. This is huge, so you can keep your Samples at 3x3 but then up the Ray samples to get better PBR renders, much faster.

Thanks - that's an important point. I knew that that was true for micropolygon PBR. And having just tested it, I can see its now true for ray trace PBR too, so I'll add a note.

The PBR documentation could perhaps bring that out a bit more clearly…

Lol.

Awesome tutorials man, I haven't watched all of them yet, but I like what I see so far.

O, and now that I know two, probbins and Stephen, of the Houdini tutorial people, it's kind of cool to recognize voices, heh.

Yes, this was a problem, we stopped trying to use PBR because the docs were not updated from 9->10 in this area…
