Just install like a regular linux version? That is, unzip and then run the install script as root. Since i presume you are running a 64bit version of Fedora you can get this houdini version:

http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_download&Itemid=208&page=license&version=10.0&build=659&platform=linux_x86_64_gcc4.3&format=tar.gz [sidefx.com]

Make sure you are installing Houdini to it's default location in /opt/hfs10.x.xxx

Also, make sure you are installing as root, but never run houdini as root.

If you have ever tried running Houdini as root then the simplest solution is to just delete /home/houdini10.0 and try again as a normal user.

The usual process for launching Houdini is as follows.

cd /opt/hfs10.x.xxx
source houdini_setup_bash
cd ~
houdini

Tnx for advice, now only doubt betwen Ubuntu and Open Suse. I would probably first try Open Suse because i have a lot of hardver issue with Fedora 13..

Try opensuse first, if you like it stick with it, if you don't like it then try Ubuntu.

i recommend you install 9.04 instead, 10.04 doesn't work for me at all (and for many others from what i heard), houdini keeps crashing all the time
