Thank you for your reply!
Sadly the max version I am using (2012) has no alembic importer yet…
But I also think you misunderstood me or I didnt explain it clearly.
All I want is to transport information of each particles position/rotation/scale in every frame over to max (preferably as null objects or anything like that, helpers)

Hi,
Is there a way I can export particle data (animated) via FBX? I need to get particle positions into 3ds max. If that doesnt work I would like to bake the particle motion onto objects (via copy node) and then export the animated geometry via PC files into max. I've tried it via FBX but it doesnt seem to generate pc files, only empty ones.
Any way except for Realflow to bring particle motion into 3ds max?

Hello,
I'm pretty new to Houdini so bear with me.
Currently I try to make a school of tuna fish (approx. 5000-1000 fish) moving as a swarm along a path, wandering a bit, varying speeds, etc pp.
Is there a good tutorial for this kind of work? Basically I will only need position/rotation of helper objects which I then will export to FBX for rendering and geometry-parenting in 3ds max.
I switched to houdini since 3ds max's crowd sim system is so incredibly slow that I nearly explode while using it :-P

Hello and thank you for your reply.
The strange thing is, that not the program itself seems to crash but rather the display of the work area. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like after I un-maximize the window and re-maximize it.
Houdini does not seem to be hanged up but rather the display of it is crashed. Despite I can't close the program via the X button it isn't marked as not responding in the task manager.

EDIT: I also tried switching to older versions of OpenGL but still the same Issue. Also upgraded Graphics driver from regular one to latest beta.

EDIT (Solution):
I downgraded my NVIDIA Drivers to 295, now it works like a charm!
Hello guys,
So is there official support for Windows 8 yet?
It starts just fine and I can work with it for like 5 minutes but then it freezes when I am for example pressing tab in the network view and start entering letters. No way of getting it back to work, have to kill the process…
Anyone knows this issue? I am eager to learn Houdini and I installed it on Win7 some months ago with no problems. I also tried running it in compatibility mode with no success.
