I know that this is old post, but for the new beginners that are looking like crazy for a way to export an OBJ file from Houdini 10 Apprentice HD.
1. create something (I would recommend getting happy and do something complicated, a simple square or a circle would do).
2. Go to your output file -> hit the tab key on your keyboard -> choose geometry -> place the geometry node in the network pane -> select the geometry node -> go to the parameter section (the partition above the partition you were place in the geometry node) and next to the “SOP Path, select or click on the icon to the left of the arched arrow called the ”floating operator chooser“ (let the mouse hover the icons and their names will pop up) -> in the ”floating operator“ choose the ”box or square object and click accept -> In the Output File, provide a destination for your exported file by clicking the right most icon -> rename it to “anything.obj” -> hit render.
Once you've found your obj you can open it in any other 3d app or others like Photoshop CS4.
Hope this helps

Are there any tutorials in rigging cars that you might know of… I have an idea on humans, but I'm assuming that rigging a car is completely.

Is rigging a car the same as rigging a character? Like the rigging character tutorial (Helldog)?

wow! (lol, you guru are like, “this dud has no clue what power Houdini has!) The ”0“ key really does the trick, I knock two wheels in less than 15 minutes. The first wheel took me about 20 minutes because I was selecting and deleting (”delete key"). Thanks a lot!
I will post an image when I'm done!

Is there a way that you can disable selecting back vertices? For instance, you select the wheel and it turns a particular color (letting you know that you've selected it), but it also selects everything behind it.

I know that the subject line speaks “duh look at the…” but this is not the case. I have a model car that has been made in 3ds max and I've imported it into houdini in obj format to export into torque (yeah I know, another torue question). Torque requires the wheels of the car to be a separate dts and the rest of the car another dts (funny thing). How can I remove the wheels from the camaro without injuring the body of the car (if you've guest it, I tried blasting the wheel and save that as a file, and blasting the body of the car and save that as a file - it's a nub thing sorry)
The image of the car is posted below.

If your not familiar with procedural modeling… If I where you I would looking to know what that is through 3DBuzz.com (look for houdini). If you think that is too much? Then stick with maya. I'm a new be for a couple of months now and I'm still learning (yeah, I'm still drinking milk so what!). So if you're in for the long but rewarding journey jump on board.

Unfortunately, I have upgraded my drivers, and the problem still continues… I did check out the daily builds though and it seems as if they are still working on it because it is not seen in the download page. I will keep an eye out for that.

Hi Community,
I've got the lastest build Houdini 9.5.350 and I've got this error. I happens when I hit the tab key in the output to see the tool menu. The image is attached below.
If you can't see the words. the error says:
Fatal error: data saved to CDOCUME~1/ADMINI~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/Administrator.4576.hip
Then there's the ok button.
Below is a Houdini Console window that says:
4576: Fatl error: Segementation Fault
saving application data to CDOCUME~1/ADMINI~1/LOCALS~1/Temp/Administrator.4576.hip
Ast this point I can add anythig to the output tab until the issue is resolved, can anyone help me?

HI, I am coming from Milkshape and a little from 3DS Max and my question is, is it possible to take a sketch of a character and model it in Houdini using the four viewports Left, Right, back, and top?

Have you found out how to see the model in Show Tool Pro. I've tested the Houdini and the capabilities of exporting it in Show Tool Pro before exporting it to Torque Game Engine and I don't see the model… All I see is where the model should be. What did I do?
1. Open Houdini
2. Created a box
3. Rendered out to Torque
4. Open Show Tool Pro
5. Load the .dts
5. The rotate tool shows up but the model is not in the middle. If I export a model to dts… small fragments is seen.
Images are see below!!! Thanks!

If it is not a problem, please break it down. The only 3D app that I've been working on is Milkshape 3D. I understand some things about transforming objects (through tutorials) but i feel that the mid set or the way I'm thinking is not what you're thinking. Sorry…

This is my first time using Houdini 9.5 and I have one question… I've imported an image made in 3DS Max into Houdini for the purpose of rigging and testing it in GG's Torque Game Engine. After importing him, the model seems to be “out of the center of his world.” How to I align him to the center of his world if possible. Attached is a jpeg image displaying the issue. Thanks!
