Technical Discussion » Pass-by-Reference Vex Functions. Question.

I've noticed a few Function in the Vex Lib such as most of the Array functions and few of the transform functions. That uses what looks like at least in C++ Pass-by-Reference Function.
example of what I'm refereing to.
Can I create a function like this in a Wrangle? or is this something for the HDK to create?
Cheers

Houdini Lounge » Great New UV layout, but...

Thank for the new Layout tool that packs so tightly. However, if I could make one request could you add an option for it to respect overlapping islands. I have a vehicle that has interior seats (among other small repeating pieces) and I would rather not have 8+ unique texture on the same sheet as well as waist precious UV space or have to use an extra large UV tex.
So if it could lock stacked islands plus Correct the area of that stack then pack it that would be amazing.
Thanks

In the hair generate node under render tab. change Hair generation to “use Sop Geo”. apply the Arnold Hair shader to the ‘hair gen’ node.

Are you just trying to group particles that spawn with that color threshold or are you try to do something a little more elaborate?
super simple would be.

Would suggest watching the new master class [sidefx.com].
But here's a quick example file for you. Just to note I use the spare input to get the detail. Just good practice with the new compile block added to 16.

Hello,
I've started to use the “Compile Block” a lot now. But I've been having a problem with this asset I've put together.
The problem is the compiler return an incorrect result but correct when displayed with foreach node. Detail notes and colour coding nodes are in the scene file.
Nodes that are red work with the compile block but not the preferred method. Green Work with the “foreach” however, does not iterate right with the compile block but is also the desired branch I would like to use.
Sorry for vague detail I think once you view and try the network you'll understand.
Any guidance would be very appreciated.

For Mantra, is it still possible to render out extra image planes as separate files?
I'm all for nested channels in an EXR but “Fusion's” support for an exr pipeline isn't there yet. That is compared to Nuke.
Nuke really has really spoiled me when it comes to compositing.
-Thanks

Houdini Lounge » question H16 : Spring constraint for Soft body / cloth

Hello,
mostly a quest about cloth but figure they're related.
Is there a way to use the SBD spring constraint on a cloth object to simulate rope/cables. I'm not having any success.
The normal pin constraint with “soft” doesn't feel like is being held by cables, also would like to have the length clamp.
-Thanks
