Thank you for the reply.
I did a comparison with the ROP Comosite node and the Overlay Text and i'm still getting the same long render times. It is averaging out to around 4-8 minutes a frame. I took some screen shots for you to see.

Hello,
I am having an issue using the Overlay Text top. I want to overlay the text on my wedge renders and it is taking a really long time to render. I have no idea why since I am running a powerful machine with 48 processors and 128 gb of RAM. I'm not sure why this is happening. I will attach my scene file if anyone wants to take a look.
Thank you

Hello,
I am having trouble rendering out a sequence in tops. I have my wedges set up correctly but when I use open gl to render out the sequence of my wedges, I only get 1 frame and not the full sequence. I don't know why because I have my open Gl settings set to “Render Frame Range”
Where am I going wrong here? Driving me a little mad.
I will attach my scene file if anyone wants to take a look.
Thanks

Backup and delete user setting folder that is C:/Users/yourname/Documents/houdini18.0 ,and restart houdini.
This worked !!! Thank you jerry !

Could you delete the temp file in Windows Explorer?
If there are some file system problems, Check mantra > driver > Save Geometry inline to disable temp geometry.
For pyro volume, you'd better cache to disk first and then load them as disk packed primitive for render.
Thanks for the response. This did not work for me unfortunately. Is there anything else I can do ?
I installed houdini on another computer that I have and it works perfectly. I have no idea it suddenly stopped working on my current work machine… This is very strange.
Thank you

Hello,
I am trying to render a very simple sequence of medium res fire and every time I try and render a sequence locally i get an error after it renders the first frame to mplay:
Command Exit Code: -1073741819
What exactly is this?
sometimes I will get an error saying this:
Command Exit Code: -1073741819
mantra: Unable to clean up temp geometry: C:/Users/daniel/AppData/Local/Temp/houdini_temp/ifds/storage/13244_pyro_fire_shader_rd1.1_000_4402.bgeo.sc
I'm not sure what triggers these error msgs. I restarted my machine and I am using the latest houdini build. Houdini.18.0.532
Please someone let me know.
I will attach my scene file
Thank you.

Regarding the hang – the ROP Fetch, ROP Geometry, etc in TOPs run out of process. The fact that the dots are bright green means the scheduler spawned the worker processes for those work items and is waiting on them complete. In your process manager, you should see a matching number of hython processes for each running work item. Do they appear to be stuck (0% CPU usage)?
When I take a look at the process manager, i see that all the “hython” process are either stuck at 0% or 0.1%. Every few seconds each process will turn to 0.1% then immediately switch back down to 0 %.
I will attach a screenshot for you
Thank you

Hello,
I am currently doing the beginner PDG tutorial here:
https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/tops/tutorial_pdgfxworkflow.html [www.sidefx.com]
I am at the part where I need to cook the “ROP Geometry output”. When I Generate and Cook that top node, it just hangs on the first work items and nothing gets cooked.
The tutorial tells me to point to the “/obj/smoke_src/create_density_volume” in the SOP path of the Rop geometry output top.
This seems very strange to me because shouldn't this be pointing to an actual file cache in SOPS? Is there a file cache built in this top node ?
I will attach my file for anyone that wants to take a look.
Thanks

Johan Boekhovenyes, this is correct.
Do you have 216 variations over 240 frames, total of 51840 images?
Johan Boekhoven
But it doesn't do any rescaling, just concatenating. So depending on the size of the input image the resulting image can easily be way to big to process. So how big are the PNG's? You could insert another imagemagik to rescale first and then make the montage.
I rendered each variation at 1280 x 720 that I set in the open gl render settings. Would this be to big? The image Magick top does not give me any settings to set the resolution of the final montage. Is there something else I can use to do this ?
Johan Boekhoven
Also on the bottom of the debug window it should say log. If you click on it maybe there's a clue what's going on.
I didn't know this. I will know better next time. I ended up deleting those files on disk to try a few new things. No luck yet .
Thanks for the reply.

Hello,
My imagemagick is constantly failing to create a montage of my wedge renders.
It was never giving me an issue before but for some reason it's failing on me now .
I have about 200 renders that i'm trying to create a montage out of. The only thing I can think of is that maybe its way to many renders for it to create a montage out of. Could this be the case?
Imagemagick is correctly installed.
I will attach a screenshot of the problem.
Thank you

thank you cwhite. That works. However I don't really understand why.
When I change the initial state to “idle”, why does that work. There are no clips I created called “idle”, there is only “idle_1” and “idle_2” and so on. Is the initial state in sops directly linked to what the name of the Crowd state node is in DOPS?
Also, there are a bunch of agents outside the bounding box now that are transitioning into the walk state even though my only trigger is a specified bounding box region.
Thank you .

Hello,
I am a beginner in crowds in Houdini. I am trying to do a simple transition from one state to another inside a bounding box.
I want to go from “idle” to “walk”. It seems like I am getting some really crazy geometry in dops….I am basing this of the crowd example in the shelf. Not sure what i am doing wrong. Thanks

I posted this on odforce but I got no response. Posting it here actually seems a little more appropriate .
I am following this beginner PDG tutorial from the side fx website.
https://www.sidefx.com/tutorials/create-a-task-workflow-to-build-cities/ [www.sidefx.com]
The link to the pdf is here:
https://media.sidefx.com/uploads/tutorial/pdg/foundations/pdg_foundation_tutorial2.pdf [media.sidefx.com]
The problem is that the attributes I set to control the random height of the buildings is not working when I combine everything after using the "wait for all" and Geometry Import" top nodes.
I am not sure what i'm doing wrong. I have followed every step of this tutorial exactly
I will attach my scene file for anyone that wants to take a look.
Thank you
