Is there any way to do this? I imagine DOPs or POPs collisions triggering note out and velocity attributes to file, preferably at sub $F level. This could all be played back through a sampler or pd/maxmsp custom patch.

Hi. I'm trying to change the colors of a grid of points (actually, circles) to correspond with the corresponding color on a bitmap. I'm pretty sure that I need to use the color/lookups COP's, but I'm stumped as to how to address the specific row/column coords from the point SOP.
Could anyone give me a kick?

My VEX particle sprites seem to shimmer when rendered. The sprites are small ‘sparks’ that have a .pic alpha channel and change color over time through Cd. They also have a v attribute for velocity blur.
When the particles settle on the collision object they should be still, but the rendered .pic sequence shows the to shimmer not unlike the affect you would expect from a VHS recording.
Do I need to adjust the render settings or is this a VEX issue?

D04001 DspyName: couldn't find requested driver: ./d_houdini.dll (The specified module could not be found.) (WARNING): No such file or directory
R90011 Can't open display image socket:3857: No such file or directory
What's going on here? The RSL ShOp thing keeps kicking this out, when it was working fine in v7. Also when rendering to prman the console gives an error about gzio(?)
BTW I think 8 is grrrr8!!!

Edward: Thankyou for you reply. That was the first place I looked, of course. I know what Escape does but there is no mention of renderplus on this site. Any others?

Can someone explain what this is? At first glance it appears to be Escape with prman capabilities. Could anyone tell me how much a license will cost, I'm very interested, yet can't find any info anywhere.

brucelay: you do realise the apprentice version will not run with prman? It will only run with Mantra as it needs to limit the output frame size. Rendering with a third party renderer will cheat that limitation, so SESI cleverly removed that feature to keep their investment safe.
Mantra is very similar to prman, whatever you learn in Mantra you can easily transpose to prman.
Stick to Mantra until you've mastered prman.

To render sprites in Mantra.-
Go into the render tab of Geometry SOP. Change the Geometry -> ‘render as is“ to ”procedural". Open the dialog below for the mantra Procedural with the little ’+' button. choose ‘sprites from the pulldown and Accept.
Just to confirm. you can switch, if you want, how the GL viewport viewport displays the particles. Press the ’D' key. Click on the ‘Particles’ tab. Change ‘Display particles as’
Your othe issue with the alpha. Maybe this is an issue with the .tga format. or even a GFXcard issue.
