Hey,
I don't know if this is a bug or a problem with my FBX model, but when I drag and make normal selections in the viewport it selects Sierpinski [en.wikipedia.org]-esque groups. It even highlights polys outside the selection marquee.
Anyone have an idea why this might be happening? It's not really causing any issues I just thought it was kind of strange (and kind of cool). Houdini Indie 15.0.244.16.

We have investigated some online T-shirt companies but we were always concerned about the end price for you. A T-shirt in the $25-30 range seemed the norm and that seemed too high. Do you know of a company where we can set up without carrying inventory and sell for less? Or is that kind of price OK?
Hey Rob, I've never used them but I've heard good things about Teespring: http://teespring.com/ [teespring.com]
Crowdfunded and decently cheap. Looks like orders only get printed/charged if enough sell, so no risk of overstock.

According to our developers, you can create a GLSL SHOP, which can be embedded into an OTL. There are no library dependencies (only OGL 2.1 / 3.2 support). I hope that makes sense.
I don't think we have any to upload at the moment, but if you have anymore questions send them our way.

We're still looking into it, sorry for the wait.
In the meantime, try installing version 12.1.43 from here [sidefx.com] and see if anything changes.
We'll let you know when there's an update.

This is something we've all wanted to know for a long time.
What assets would you like to see in the store? Who knows, maybe a SESI artist or someone else in the community will be able to cook something up. It's not like it hasn't happened before here or on odforce.
Eventually, we hope to have a more formal process for asset requests, but for now let's see what you've got.

Have any of you made anything with assets from Orbolt? We'd love to see some work, whether it's an experiment, in progress or a final product. You might even get featured somewhere on the site or something (if you like). 8)
I've personally played with most of your assets and my skills are extremely limited, but I can already do so much more with Houdini than before. I shudder to think of what some of you can do.

Tue Aug 21 15:33:38 EDT 2012 - Fixed a problem with an old build of Houdini 12.1 on the server that was preventing asset uploads.
Some of you might have hit an error uploading recently. We caught the bug and everything should work as usual. Let us know if you still have trouble uploading.

RFE: Please offer an option to NOT open the new Houdini each time It gets old really fast when downloading quite a few.
RFE: Option to check “download” or “add to cart” then do a bulk download.
RFE: Progress bar on download. Especially for larger assets (ENV map ones, for instance)
I've created bugs/RFEs for these (50670, 50671 and 50669, respectively) since we've heard these before.

btw, thanks for posting the folder with assets, I assume I can just remove them from there if I want to remove an asset? Maybe an option from Houdini to remove assets would also be nice. I just prefer to remove assets I'm not going to use (because I expected more from the asset for example), just to keep things clean.
You can uninstall assets in Houdini by going to the Asset Browser pane, right-clicking on the asset icon, and choosing “Remove Asset”.

I've logged an RFE (#50668) for this. I'm not sure of its viability but we'll let you know.

When you download an asset, a new instance of Houdini should automatically open with an example HIP file (for assets that have one, which all SideFX assets should).
For reference, assets are downloaded to the following directories:

- Windows
Username/My Documents/houdini12.1/asset_store/user/otls
Linux
~/houdini12.1/asset_store/user/otls
Mac

If this isn't happening, there might be another issue at work. Make sure you're using at least version 12.1.33 of Houdini. If it still doesn't work, send us a bug report at support@orbolt.com and include your OS and what's happening/not happening.

Wed Aug 15 13:42:31 EDT 2012 - Adding support for uploading VOP assets.
I know a few of you have been waiting for VOP asset support. Uploading should work fine now, so try it out and let us know if you have any issues (not in this thread, preferably ).

This is where we will document changes to the Orbolt site that affect authors and customers.
Hopefully we'll have a more integrated solution similar to the Houdini Journal in the near future, but for now this thread should keep you up to date.

The Orbolt Smart 3D Asset Store » Editorial vs Standard License
- nbush

The Standard and Editorial license types are the norm for any kind of royalty free media sale.
Basically, editorial licenses limit the use of the content (assets, in this case) to editorial purposes. Like you said, this implies news-related or public interest materials. These assets cannot be used for commercially, whether it is for- or non-profit, which includes most VFX work.
The biggest issue here is that we set all our assets to editorial licenses by mistake. We have now fixed this. To clarify, all SideFX assets are now using the Standard License.
Authors are free to upload assets with the Editorial License, and there are some cases where this is necessary. Most of these cases apply to stock photography and won't be relevant to Orbolt assets, but if an author does not own the intellectual property rights to all content within an asset, they cannot use the Standard License. For example, assets that include a logo which was not cleared by the intellectual property rights' holders or include the likeness of someone without a signed model release would require an Editorial License. It is advisable for authors to check with their lawyers if they are unsure of what license to use.
But hopefully the switch to Standard Licenses should answer most of your questions.
If you have any other concerns, let me know.

rgellesHey Rich,
I see in the announcement that indeed the Apprentice versions can author to the Orbolt site but are they limited to making things free – so as to keep to the terms your Apprentice License?
Or is there a special rule allowing sales of assets on orbolt made with Apprentice?
Rich
You can use Houdini Apprentice to author both commercial and Apprentice assets, which you can keep free or sell just like Houdini and Houdini FX users.
Just upload your OTL and HIPNC files and we'll convert them if necessary.
