Thanks, this is really interesting. I also guess that the amount of people developing a good game-engine is much bigger then the amount developing the a viewport renderer, which makes sense.
I didn't know about the line drawing issue, its a bit funny. So a lot of the problems comes from bugs in the OpenGL implementation that game engines just don't run into generally?

Hello!
I want to set the HOUDINI_MMB_PAN env variable on a mac, but i can't find the way to do it so it applies every time I start houdini. I did it once but I don't remember how, and I also can't find the info on forums or in the help.
Can anyone here explain how its done?
Thanks.

This reminds me of a question I want to ask for some time. Why does it seem to be so difficult to write a viewport renderer that is fast and stable and looks good relative to current day's 3D engines, while there are so many games today thats looks very good and are very fast, and also doesn't seem to suffer from all those bugs all the time.
For example, H11 is running on my macbook pro rather slowly, and if I enable the new higher quality settings, it basically doesn't work, or works very slowly, but 3D games runs perfectly fine. I haven't tried other 3d apps, so I don't know their status.
Of course I only ask this question from a technical interest, not to try and compare or upset anyone.
Thanks.

Hi!
Is anyone here uses the new magic mouse? I read it has no support for middle clicking, and i just can't imagine a way to work in Houdini (and other apps) without it.

No, these DVDs cover a lot of stuff, but not muscles. I remember guys from OdForce and SideFX saying that since the muscle tools are new, and not yet very complete, it is not a good idea to make DVDs on them. They also said that muscles in Houdini should only be used if you know what you are doing.
But of course, I will also be very happy for more material on this subject.

Is the list in the What's New help section final, or will there be more features before the release?

Houdini Indie and Apprentice » Problem with upgrading from Apprentice HD 9.1 license to 9.5

Hello!
I want to upgrade my HD license from 9.1 to 9.5, but when I choose the upgrade option, and enter my password and other details, I get a red error saying no HD license was found.
The site says the license has to be redeemed. I'm not sure what that means, but I tried to return the license through the license manager, and I still get this error.
Who should I turn to?
Thanks.

But the OpenOffice format is problematic. I tried to open it on a Mac, and it didn't work at all.
Technical Discussion » memory allocation error ?

I think the solver just allocates too much memory, and does not release unused memory as fast as possible, and when no more memory is available, it just crashes, which is not a very good solution to mem allocation failure.

What do you mean fragmented? A contiguous virtual buffer can be very fragmented in physical memory, that will only affect performance.
Do you mean fragmentation in the heap?

This is what I get when trying to render a textured quad. The messages appears after about 3 minutes, and 1 minue after that mplay is opened but nothing is rendered in it. (The texture is visible in the viewport).
