The Apprentice feature chart (http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=589&Itemid=221) [sidefx.com] says:
NO limit on a single frame render
Up to HD (1920 x 1080) for animation renders
Hope this helps.

Hi,
As far as I'm aware, there are no differences in export options between Apprentice and Apprentice HD - it's just the rendering size/watermark.

Greg

Hi,
It's correct. Use the gallery to either drag the materials to your objects, or to the /shop area, for further customisation. Dropping a material onto an object will automatically add it to /shop.

It's sound to me that it's too long, what can I do for reduce it ?
Hi,
Try disabling the GI and see whether this makes a significant difference.
If it does, then run a separate GI pass, with all materials set to Clay, and then composite the two layers together - there is a chance that it will give you a boost of 10x shorter render time.
Would be lovely if you could let us know if it helped.

Hi,
For curves, it is JOIN rather than FUSE that should be used.
Maybe this:
http://www.aiworks.eu/modeling/49-h11cb-modeling-close-mirrored-curve.html [aiworks.eu]
or this:
http://www.aiworks.eu/modeling/15-h10cb-modeling-create-a-red-blood-cell.html [aiworks.eu] will help.
Cheers,
Greg

Thank you, Edward.
I did not mean to disrespect the forum rules. I have already submitted the bug using one of the three options suggested.
My post above was a cry of disappointment at the way the shader view gets treated in H11. The way it is progressing right now - well…. it just does not work. It seems to be buggy enough to require a more .. pro-active review, some serious attention - not just submit-fix-submit-fix-submit-fix… cycle.
So, I'll repeat my request: dear devs, please put some love into fixing the new material system and the shader view!
Thanks again,
Greg

Dear Devs,
The shader view has got issues since the beginning of H11. Bugs get submitted, and the devs seem to be fixing them quickly
However, every time a new build is available, it turns out that this feature is still a bit unusable.
In the most recent build, it is enough to activate the shader view, grab a Mantra Surface material in the material gallery, and then delete the material, to crash H11 on Win7x64.
So, dear devs, please put some love into fixing the new material system and the shader view!
Huge thanks!

Hi,
Why the new mantra surface shader can't be seen in shader view?
It was supposed to be fixed a couple of builds ago -yet it still doesn't work, albeit in a different way than before - so they obviously tried fixing it, but failed
I also count on the Devs *really* fixing it asap.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi,
I'm not sure whether it's my config or an actual bug, so maybe linux and mac guys could try reproducing the following, with the most recent build:
Empty scene, drag a Mantra Surface Builder from the Material Palette to /shop. in the shader params, go to OpenGL, and delete the first texture layer.
This always generates 1928 Fatal error / Seg Fault on my Win7/x64 setup.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi,
This is just to confirm that I have attempted a fresh install (11.0.463) on a different notebook, with Vista x86, and with an Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software.
Sesinetd.exe crashes every time I try to start the service.
I think at this stage it might be considered a reproductible bug, and should receive some attention from the Sidefx devs.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi,
It's just one checkbox.
That said, after I have fine tuned the scaling options, I think I now like the new setup.

Hi,
AFAIK, they didn't address it, at least not after my note - I never found the time to re-install these bloody drivers to confirm that ithe problem I experienced was reproducible, and I don't think anybody else linked the two - it was a pure accident, that on the same day I installed H11, and I needed to use a WiFi in a public building, where the network setup was weird enough to require disabling windows drivers for a proper connection.
I can't promise, but maybe tonight or tomorrow night I can try to reinstall these drivers to confirm the source of the problem. Or maybe somebody who experienced the problem tried to play a bit with these drivers and could confirm if uninstalling them helped?

Hi Andrzej,
Patience ;-) The dev team removed the old materials, because the whole material system has changed. So you can either load and use the old gallery (install H10, grab the Materials.gal file), being aware that it is now outdated, or wait a couple of days until they restore the full palette using the new setup. The most recent builds already have some materials restored.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi again,
I guess I've been too vague ;-(
I meant uninstalling the Intel WiFi drivers. I did not mean swapping PCs, systems, etc - merely uninstalled the Intel WiFi drivers & mgmt software, rebooted so that Windows took over the WiFi management, and then re-installed houdini - all without touching the license.

Hi,
I recall having same sort of problems a couple of weeks ago, when I installed Intel WiFi management software. If you happen to use not the standard Windows drivers & software for your WiFi card, but the stuff from Intel (or provided by your PC/notebook manufacturer), try uninstalling and letting Windows manage the card itself.
This unlocked the license server for me, hope it might help you too.
Cheers,
Greg

Try Swann's “Bridge” tool in the exchange, and see how he did it. It contains the functionality you talk about, and seems to work quite robustly.

Hi mendocinotim,
I think you are doing everything OK. Just make sure that the file name dialog shows the actual digit in the filename, rather than the $ sign - as this was the most obvious problem in your case. And, as John said, “Space-G” to home on the selected geometry - or just use your mouse to zoom out enough to see the geometry.
Anyway, once you load the file, go to the network editor, dbl-click (or hit “I”, or “Enter” on the Geometry node that was created, and once you are inside, middle-click the file node to see the summary of the contents of the node.
You can also right-click and display the “Spreadsheet” information, showing you details about each point of your geometry - see attached screenshot.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi again,
My first guess: the $ in the filename might make H11 get confused, as the numbers get automagically matched to proper frame numbers. Get rid of the “show sequence as one” flag in the file open dialog, to force the actual numbers to be displayed and imported.
If this does not work, try checking out what error the node editor shows - your sceencast did not show that part of the H11 interface.
Cheers,
Greg

Hi,
See the screenshot. At least 3 different ways:
- use File/Import
- use Create Shelf -> File
- use Network editor -> Tab menu -> Geometry -> Autocreated File Node.
Oh, and try using the OBJ or FBX format for export/import
Hope this helps,
Greg
