Now that I've locked my asset and created parameter interface for the my rig… Do you know how I can allow dynamic selection on the parameter interface when something is selected on the scene view?
For example, if I select the right hand controller on the scene view, I want the parameter pane to reveal the tab that has the input entry for this controller. I noticed that the toon character rig has this feature.

So i created a rigged character… and all the bones and controllers are now in the subnet. My problem is when I select a controller from the scene view pane, the parameter and network pane dives down inside the subnet where it highlights the actual controller node.
I want the network pane to not dive down inside the subnet and not reveal the actual controller node. How can I get around this?

The problem is that I need to bake the simulated animation to the geometry. Got any solution for that?

I just solve it.
In the dopesheet you just have to select where you want the keys and ctrl+k.
But shouldn't there be a more “procedural” way? I mean, let's say you want to export animation on all 500 frames… it'll be tiring to press “k” 500 times, right?
EDIT: Also, the approach you mentioned doesn't work on Rigid Body simulation (e.g., a falling cube)

I'm trying to export an geometry with an RBD simulation for its animation. Does anyone know how I can export this geometry and animation as an FBX file, so Maya can import it?

Using the “wire deform” method listed on the link below, I can get the curve to “flow” through the curve. In other words, the movement of the influenced vertices are only through the U&V of the curve.
But what do you do if you want to translate the vertices outward. For example, move the bottom of the lips in a protruding fashio? How do you make the “wire deform” method listed on the link work?

I have a parameter (let's say length) and I want to get the value of that parameter when the animation started (first frame). However, I want to get this value procedurally without having to scrub the time slider to the very first frame.
How can this be done?

Does anyone know where I can get the sample files from the blog (http://vanillarigging.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html [vanillarigging.blogspot.com] )? The linked files seem to be dead (e.g., empty)

So I'm trying to use auto-rig for my quadruped. I noticed on the parameter section (and on the tutorial from this site) that I'm supposed to provide a path for the Geometry in the Scene Object.
My question is, “should there only be ONE geometry node for a creature in Houdini?” I mean, should the body mesh and eye mesh be in the same geometry node?

So let's say I have a displacement material for my mesh. Then I also have a surface/color material for the same mesh. How can the mesh be able to display both?
Using the merge node does not really do it. Please help. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to make toon or cartoon shading for fluid effects? I've seen examples of toon shaded objects, but I've found none for fluids so far.

Thanks. This is the look that I wanted to achieve (different colors of course).
Many thanks again.
alberto,
Did you ever figure out how the Toon Shader works? I'm in the same boat as you. Any help is appreciated.

Just watched the whole thing. Wow…. that probably is the most painful tutorial video I've seen on this site (yet). It was purely a powerpoint presentation that's 30 minutes long. I kind of wished it had some “real-time” video. Nonetheless, it was better than nothing.
