thanks for the various method. got that figured it out.
can i ask one more question on the next example? in the next example, he set any particles below -2 in Y axis he group them.
so i enabled vex and typed
ingroup = @t.y < -2;
but i got an error. what's the proper way to do this?
thanks again,
hb

thank you Enivob & jeff.
as a beginner, where to use expressions, global or standard variables, or attributes are the most confusing things for me. but i feel like i'm understanding the concept slowly…

a quick question.
i have a simple setup. a grid with attribute vop.
i have a aaflownoise and added “$FF/240” in “flow” field hoping it gives me animated noise. but it doesn't. when i just scrub through the value it moves but not with expression.
is it a bug or something i missed?
thanks,
hb

hi
i'm going through “lesson10: particles.”
i have a set up of a sphere shooting down particles and 50%of them belongs to “A_group.” and A_group particles are blown by popfan. then the instructor added “velocity” node to slow down x and z directions by adding $VX*0.9, $VY, $VZ*0.9 in the velocity field.
however, it seems like $Vs are no longer working(it game me red error) so i used @v.x, @v.y, v.z instead. but now all velocity in A_group becomes 0s.
what did i do wrong?
thanks,
hb

Just in case anyone else looks this up (as I just did)…
try checking the “Accurate Moves” option on the State tab of the particle1 sop!
thank you. I just had the same problem and now found the answer!

One more question.
I added “POP Group” with rule “@Cd.r < 0.5;”. But as you can see it doesn't work. In geometry sheet everything is still 0. What did I do wrong?

Hi
I'm going through Lesson 6 last example and has a question.
https://archive.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2186&Itemid=361 [archive.sidefx.com]
also attached the screen shots of the tutorial and mine.
In his setup he added “attribute transfer” in POP level. But in houdini V15, you don't have it in POP level.
What do I need to use instead? I tried “POP attribute from volume” but no luck. As you can see my spheres turn into black instead of getting red color attributes from the box grid.
Any solution?

Hi,
I'm going through Sidefx tutorial Lesson6: Attributes and Variables. Link below.
https://archive.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2186&Itemid=361 [archive.sidefx.com]
In this tutorial, he created an attribute “ari” from the color value, delete color attributes by adding point op with none color, and add color again by adding point op and calling $ARI values. file attached.
When I call the “ari” values if I use “@ari.x, @ari.y, @ari.z” it works fine. But when I use “$ARI1, $ARI2, $ARI3” which was how he did in the tutorial, it fails. Why calling through “$” fails?
Thanks,
hb

Thanks Enivob,
If it's not too much trouble can you give me an example when you use @(attribute) over $(global value?)?
If I understood correctly “@(attributes)” are the innate properties of an object and “$(global value)” are the properties that can be determined globally, like 3rd point of view? Is that why point positions, @P.x and $TX has no difference?
Thank,
Hb

Hi,
I have a simple question.
What's the difference between “@” and “$”? For example, @N.x vs $NX
I had a sphere with polygon and added a ‘point’ node.(see attachments)
And then I added ‘Normal.’ The default values were @N.x, @N.y, @N.z. But as you can see in the geometry spreadsheet it gave me all 0s. But when I changed those to $NX, $NY, $NZ it gave me correct normal values. Is this a bug? I have the latest Houdini running on Mac OSX 10.11.
Thanks,
HB

hi,
i just started to learn houdini and going through tutorials.
on their first lesson, building and breaking columns, my simulation is very unstable. even before the ball hits the columns columns starts breaking and pieces are flying crazy. i redid the same scene several times but still produce the same result.
any advice?
i attached my file.
thanks,
garin
