Why houdini doesn't have a simple ramp in VOP context?
I think it's a preatty basic thing…
I know there are some ramp operators for download (http//www.cgtalk.ru/forum/showthread.php?t=13780), but I think it must be on…
Or there is other sistem to do it?
thanks!

Ok, you can do it in the H8 way, without the shelf.
Follow this instructions
-Create new scene.
-Go to network editor
-Create a geometry node. (press Tab. and then press “geo”, you'll see the node)
-Select the node (in the network editor) and press enter or i key to go inside.
-Now create a box, one grid, and one copy node.
connect the output of the box in the first input of the copy, and the output of the grid to the second input of the copy.
Now press the blue/display button of the right side of the copy node. And that's it.
Preatty basic thing, even I know how to do it ) I`m just joking, at the begining it could be very hard
Good luck!

Hi phamarus,
Did you set active the display of the copy SOP?
It's the blue square at the right of the copy SOP node.
Also post the version of houdini you are working on. That can helps.
bye!

Thanks rmagee!
I tried creating a render node to fix the “error” with the render region. Now it works perfect.
Aswell pointing the light to the objects works perfect too.
Nevertheless why isn't there a flag for transparence in the shadow shader? Although I'll use the standard light for render depth shadow. They are more clear and simple to setup in H9.
Thanks for the reply!

Hi stevenong,
Thanks for the reply. it works ok.
Maybe the problem was that i was rendering with “render region” and with that tool is doing some weird things. Can you tell me why? Doesn't make sense ?
Aswell I don't understand why I need to point the light to the object S
Also, I'm trying to render particles with a light template + shadow shader in depth shadow, and it's ok, I'm getting a shadow, but I cant find where can I setup the transparence S
Thanks in advance!

I cant setup the depth map shadow in H9.
If I set a light with depth map lights, doesn`t render the shadows. Although works perfect with raytrace…
If I create an shadow shader in vex with depth maps connected to a light template, works ok, but, what about the stardard light?
thanks!

Thanks! It works like a charm!
The override attributes are working only with vex or you can use them for the whole houdini?
thanks again!

Hi there,
I'm still newby on Houdini, but I'm trying to do some volumetric with particles. Just with particles, rendered as spheres, with a smoke shader.
The problem is, that I dont know how to transfer the Cd attribute of the particles to the color of the shader. I can't find it anywhere S
Thanks in advance!
pd i'm still on H8

Hi there,
I'm trying to import a palette to Houdini 9. But I don't know how to do it.
I'm following these instructions, from the “Vex_ZBrush_Displacement_Map” shader, downloaded from the exchange.
* Start Houdini, add a geometry-operator and enter the SOP-level.
* Add a file-SOP and set the path to the OBJ-file from ZBrush.
* Switch to the shaders (SHOP) - open the palette-window (Alt+g or menu ‘Tools/Shader Palette …’).
* Switch to the directory with the ‘VEX_ZBrush_Displacement.palette’ - import the shader for the displacement-map (use ‘Drag&Drop’).
* Open the option for the new shader and enter the location for the by ZBrush generated displacement-image - ‘D-Map (ZBrush)’.
* Go back to the SOP-level and add a shader-SOP to the network. Select in the option-pane (press ‘P’) the new shader in the ‘displacement-field’.
* Add a subdivision-SOP to the network.
* Render the scene. Refine the displacement-level in the shader-option-pane if necessary and re-render.
thanks!

Hi there,
I'm just wondering if SESI could edit the file SOP, and add a write/open function, like the File DOP.
I think it could be great to have a form of bake geometry or save your model from SHOP.
I'm a newbie with Houdini, so maybe it's a stupid request )

Or any free application for open them in windows?
thanks
pd wow SESI you are doing a great job with H9 beta and the new tutorials.

Wow! Really nice videos )
It could be great if SESI would share some of the scenes too. At least the fluid ones.
Thanks in advance!
