Since an HDA is basically just a new node you can nest HDAs as much as you'd like. The deeper the hieararchy however the harder it makes the whole thing to update and maintain.
There is no real answer to if it makes sense to organise your workflow the way you describe it without more information. It generally depends on the eventual purpose of the asset/tool.

Just keep putting in RFEs [www.sidefx.com].
Or make a comparison video of other curve tools in other packages… shame is a good motivator too

Ah alright, yeah that makes sense. My bad.
Could be an interaction the devs didn't plan for.
For now you can create a camera, edit its FOV and lock the view to the camera.

This is cool new feature added in H18 IIRC?
You can disable it by by clicking on the cam icon in the middle above the viewport. See screenshot below.

Try clearing your H18.5 prefs folder (C:\Users\user\Documents\houdini18.5) and see if that helps. It does sound like a bug however. I could imagine that it's a bug with custom desktops or similar.

At around 3:30 he creates a “pscale” attribute on the points where the curves end up on. This sets the width of the blades.
In H18.5 the scattering of objects on surfaces like your grassblades got a lot easier. Watch the recent Entagma tutorial for that here [www.youtube.com].

Now with the release of H18.5 and SideFX focusing more and more on the content library [www.sidefx.com] I think it's worth giving this another bump.
Is the content library here to replace Orbolt? Will it get a cool little integration into Houdini?

Wait what? can you really use apprentice for external renderers? will that remove the watermark as well? that would make indie redundant for many people..
No you cannot. See here [www.sidefx.com].

It really feels like USD is being shoved down the throats of all users indiscriminately, whether they actually have a need for it or not.
Your phrasing is pretty offputting to be honest.
SideFX invested in a new tech that has been the big thing in terms of workflows/pipeline in the last 2 Siggraphs. Obviously they either go all in and get everyone they can on board or they shouldn't have done it at all.
If you take a look at the Solaris Forum [www.sidefx.com] and have a lookout for big names from big studios you will undoubtedly see that SideFX succeeded in getting Houdini established in big studios for more than just FX.
Of course their next task has to be bringing it to the masses and you can see already that with the first .5 release after the initial Solaris release they're doing good steps in the right direction.
Give it a bit of time. It's a huge tool built upon cutting edge tech that pretty much all the big studios are investing in.

As a non-commercial hobbyist you're well adviced with Renderman [renderman.pixar.com] or 3Delight [www.3delight.com].
Both really great renderers.

So i guess my questiom is: Does solaris/stage/LOP (they are practically the same?) replace the OBJ level completely?
Good question! Large studios also struggle with this question. See FX Sup Luke Gravett from Animal Logic [www.youtube.com], who mentions this 1-2 times in his great talk.
/obj/ gives you the advantage of a lot of existing tools, tutorials and so on. Rigging comes to mind as well.
/stage/ gives you lots of juicy new tools like the lightmixer etc. It is not very Houdini-esque though. Yes, you have nodes, but you always have to keep in mind your “Scene Hierarchy” next to your node hierarchy which you will get to love in SOPs.
If you're confused what USD/Solaris/LOPs//stage/ is all about watch What is USD: A Primer [www.youtube.com]
Now to decide what you should use. As with most things: it depends. If you're
- by yourself working on smaller stuff, stick to /obj for now. You will have a much easier time finding tutorials.
- in a medium sized studio which is interested in USD based workflows. Learn /stage.
- in a small team and do FX/Lighting/Shading learn both and decide what works for you.
Hope this makes sense.

A good trick is to Drag/Drop the parm you want to modify into your Python Shell (also works for all other kinds of stuff btw) and go from there.
D/D the scale parm(tuple) -> .set(valx,valy,valz) -> Enter
D/D the scale parm(tuple) -> .set(valx,valy,valz) -> Enter
Technical Discussion » How do I hard-set all parameters to the current value?

Could you describe situations where this fails? I have couple of scripts that do shenanigans similar to this and would like to hear about potential pitfalls.
Scripted parms (python SOP/wrangle) are “just” be string parameters with language highlighting (AFAIK).
And in my head the order shouldn't matter if you don't have parameters that query if another parameter is an expression.

Essentially you want to call hou.Parm.deleteAllKeyframes() [www.sidefx.com] (this includes hscript expressions, hscript, python parms) etc and you'll be left with the current value.
Pseudo python code incoming:
Hope that helps
Edit: If you want to do it at a specific frame, you can set the current frame to a specific value first.
Pseudo python code incoming:
for network in network: for node in network.nodes(): # there might be a function to get all node instances of all networks right away for parm in node.parms() parm.deleteAllKeyframes()
Hope that helps

My bad, but that's a weird one then.
Maybe check the setup again and if that fails contact support@sidefx.com. Not a lot of users run distributed narrow band sims I'm guessing.

AFAIK SideFX added the option of distributed narrowband sims in H18. Might have also been backported to a late 17.5 version.
Try searching for it in the changelog.
