unless you can be more specific about your system specs, there's little chance that the developers can help you. Many of us are on xp, and have nvidia and do not experience these problems.
are you using the latest nvidia drivers? which driver?

Depends on what you're doing.
If you're doing a leading character, then I *personally* would do what's fastest which is not necessarily going to allow you to procedurally edit the model after the fact.
If you're doing a crowd sim, I'd try to make it as flexible as possible so that you can easily populate your crowd with different characters without the chaos of actually modeling them all.

point sop method is what I always use.

One thing that probably should be noted is that the camera is set to 1600x900 you could probably have it set to something like 720x405 to get much quicker renders.
The only pass that should be very time consuming though is the flicker_pass which does a lot of raytracing with instanced lights… I wouldn't expect either simulating, or rendering of the flames to be as bad as you describe.

This works for me. It's based on seconds, not frames.
Double check on the POP solver that you have Reap Particles turned on.

This depends on what you're specifically attempting to do… Are you trying to have two liquids mix with each other? Are you trying to have your fluid generate white water?

It would probably make sense to have a similar feature in mplay as in the compositor, where we can keep the last “good” image until the next “good” image.

if you have the same resolution as your camera, and select the “crop out view mask overlay” option like in the image, it will not distort your image.
You can also press ctrl + b in the viewport before doing a flipbook to maximize that pane so that it scales your flipbook down rather than up providing a nicer looking flipbook.

I'd also suggest trying to get a motherboard that allows you to add a second quad processor later should you desire it.

you can do this with the stamp function
open the text browser in houdini and type exhelp stamp for tips on using it. There should be multiple examples in the help docs as well.
