Offhand, it looks like there's extra quotes around the expression.
If I don't have the quotes (either forward or back) I get an error saying can't evaluate and hasprim is not defined?!

Hey Rob,
Looks almost right… but you kind'a mangled the inputs to the smooth VOP.
The output of multiply1 goes into the “amount” input of the smooth vop, and “roloff” gets no input, so disconnect the output from stripes2 from it. You can replace “constantB” and “subtract1” with a ComplementVOP, and lose “floattovec1”.
With those changes, the output of smooth1 is just a weight – it's meant to multiply the texture pattern, whatever that might be (in this case it's the output of stripes2, but it could just as easily be the output of a TextureVOP or anything else).
I'm attaching a modified version of your hip file with the changes.
HTH.

Assuming the fadeout is happening in the u dimension (also typically inside the range), then you could try:
float weight = 1.0-smooth(ws,ws+fs,2*abs(u-center));
where:
center => center of window, float, range , default 0.5
ws => window size, float, range , default 0.5
fs => fade size, float, range , default 0.5
Those defaults would give you a 0.5-wide window centered at u=0.5 with the two sides fading out over a 0.25 range… filling out the interval in u.

Try the camera mask parameters. See attached. Oh, you need to turn on the display option too.

I also seem to have this update installed without any issues. I'm on Vista64 though, which may be part of the difference.
Peter, given the information on that link you provided, do you get the sense that Houdini is being “blocked” by vista, or does it look like a perfectly “normal” houdini crash?

I globally scaled my animation and it seems to have converted all my keyframes into partial keyframes. And now the Jump to Next/Previous Scoped Keys no longer work consistently.
Is there any way to convert them back to normal keyframes (or avoid this happening in the first place)?

uhhhhh……i don't get that website? i cannot find the tutorials and stuff… :?

OK
Thank you
I went to the Nvidia site and dl approved drivers. Installed them fine.
Problem persists.
Moved home directory around, and back, with low expectations. That made no difference. I didn't see how it would.
Uninstalled, and reinstalled Houdini and hard shutdown.
No difference.
Nothing that I do makes any difference.
The application severely leaks memory, flipbook does not work at all. There is a basic incompatability between Houdini and my system.
I think that this one got by SESI.

Viewport flipbook does not work in Win versdion. Upon PRESS of ACCEPT, nothing happens.
The window closes, and there is no Flipbook created.
PLEASE DON'T tell me I have to submit a HIP file for that.

Hello.
I just installed Houdini 8.1 Apprent. in Linux sucessfully. But i am no Linux Expert (yet).
I have just one simple Question :
Instead of having to type “source houdini_setup_bash” in the Shell to init the environment where in Linux have I put this to be auto-init. at Startup ?

Hello,
Is it possible (in Houdini, Windows) to somehow extract the current time and date? I would like to append the resulting string to the name of my many test render frames…
It appears that of all the variables defined on the system, one cannot extract only the Date and Time
Any ideas?

If Rivet interests you, you need to also investigate the Sticky Object. It requires uv's on the geometry. It allows you to slide the Sticky across the surface using the uv set that you point it at.
Can you or anyone post an example hip file using the sticky? I added a sticky to a scene but I can't figure out how to make it work.
