Does anyone have a trick to delete shared surface polys? Got a data set that has 3 copies on top of each other  (making for a total of nearly 300+K polys). Unfortunately, the polys are in random order so I can't use the delete SOP with range option.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Really? I could swear I just tried it on a polygonal sphere. Lemme go back and recheck.
Oops … I was wrong … I was using a mesh. But then you could convert to polys, right?

Ha! You are completely 100% correct - this is *exactly* what the BakeVex SOP is for, except that, unlike the viewport “VEX Shaded” mode, it only supports parameteric surfaces, and not polys.
Why? We rightly don't know, so we've kinda scrubbed BakeVex from being a truly useful operation since 95% of the time we're working with polys.

Maybe I'm missing something but what about using the bakeVEX SOP? Are there advantages/disadvantages between this & the VEX SOP method? :?

I am a beginner in Houdini. I am trying to build some 3D model with houdini's procedural approach. I am just wondering if there is any way I can control teh number of “end caps” for a “tube” sop (instead of just on and off)?
Feed the tube SOP into a cap SOP (make sure End Caps are not clicked on in the tube SOP). In the cap SOP, play with the division parameter. If you want the cap to be flat then set the scale to 0.
Cheers,
Rob

Just checking the obvious, you are in one of the select modes? eg transform or pose and not just in tumble mode….
Please note that there is where my face turns red … yes … yes I was in view mode. ops:
Gee, you go away for a couple of years & the software changes … go figure
Thanks for the tip.

As you probably seen by my latest post, I am running Houdini on a Dell 9100 using WindowsXP. The card is a 128MB ATI Radeon 9700 with 1GB RAM.
I believe the Dell M60 just got a good writeup though for the life of me I can't find it … let me see if I can dig it up. The XPS Gen2 is great for playing games.
Cheers,
Rob

Sorry … it was the Dell M70. The link is:

I have downloaded the Apprentice version onto my Dell 9100. I have a 128MB ATI 9700 card.
For some reason, the Selector & Handle Controls on the left side of the viewer are not … well … selectable. They are greyed out. Additionally, I cannot seem to select any objects in the viewport. I swore I was able to use them before.
Does this have to do with the hardware I'm using or is there something quirky with the latest Apprentice version?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Rob

Using mplay from 6.1.109 …
when I change the settings (specifically the Frame Rate), it is not saved. Is this a problem amd/or where does it save the settings?
Thanks in advance

I found a workaround. Basically, I need to create a list of images and feed that as an argument to mplay. It looks something like this:
set list
catch “exec mplay -f 1 5 $list”
I could have sworn that I tried this last night - eyes must have been playing tricks with me
Anyways, only concern now is a string overflow if I try to view a large sequence. Will let ya know how it goes.

For those who may be using TCLTK …
I was able to use “iplay” with tcltk using a command like:
catch
So, I thought with mplay I could easily do:
catch
Unfortunately, mplay keeps reporting to me that it cannot open Ctemp/test*.jpg
I have tried many variations such as:
I've even tried globbing a list out and feeding that but to no avail.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
BTW. The \ character is suppose to be a backslash but for some reason it appears like this.
