You could also fetch that information using a hotkey-bound script. The results could be sent to the status bar, shell window, or dialog box.
Hscript provides an all-in-one summary via opinfo, but there's probably a simpler Python equivalent.

Your test SVG looks complete when I load into Houdini as an icon. All shapes present. Maybe try exporting using one of one Inkscape's alternative SVG formats.

Technical Discussion » keyboard issues with OSX

Houdini doesn't seem to like the option key modifier for some text fields. You may want to try some third-party software that can remap one key to another:
KeyRemap4MacBook (works on any keyboard, despite the name):
https://pqrs.org/macosx/keyremap4macbook/ [pqrs.org]
Keyboard Maestro:
http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/ [keyboardmaestro.com]
I thought another solution might be to edit your global keybindings to automatically insert the $ symbol when you type some other key. Although many applications honor the change, Houdini 13 generally does not.
Houdini also seems to ignore the substitutions defined in the system Language & Text preference pane.

The splintering and jagged edges look nice. Good use of motion blur for the flying shards. The large shattering effect feels out of proportion with its impact force, though.
A wooden palette dropped from a low height would probably just crack and skid around meekly. The dramatic camera angle also makes it look as if the wood explodes before touching the asphalt surface.

Very nice. The grainy texture and gentle light diffusion help make those tumbling, seasoned chips look quite appetizing.
It might also be neat to see some crumbling and hint of oily residue along the side of the dish.

I don't know about Houdini integration, but the interactive iPython system could be a useful way to learn more about general Python development. It's a friendly, forgiving scripting scratchpad that might help you explore more about the language.

Maybe try discarding the existing text file at /Library/Preferences/sesi/licenses.local, then relaunch the License Administrator.app. If your Mac OS X user account has administrative privileges, the SESI utility should then try to create a new license file and populate it with a valid entry.
The utility's diagnostic information command might also provide a hint about what's causing the trouble.

The data tables that Apple publishes for its recent machines imply that the underlying support for better OpenGL display port functionality is included in the system. But maybe Apple's driver implementation is still too incomplete or unreliable.

I don't see how to establish motion blur based solely on the camera's changes in focal length and/or aperture, either.
Maybe it's got something to do with motion vector attributes. If Mantra really doesn't support built-in FOV motion blurring, you might have to introduce some frame blending during the compositing phase. Or just use camera transforms to move in closer.

You could try scanning your open network ports for number 48626, which I believe is the one Houdini's help service uses. If that port isn't communicating, something is blocking it or Houdini isn't running.
Or maybe your Houdini installation is just incomplete, and the help system can't find its source files.
Another less likely culprit is that your domain name service (DNS) is misconfigured, so the entry “localhost” doesn't resolve to anything.

Mantra's live interactive photorealistic render (IPR) is also indispensable. And it's neat how you can establish multiple rendering nodes to evaluate different configurations.

The similarity could be a testament to how sophisticated OpenGL display properties have gotten. But you'd probably start seeing a much more pronounced difference with more detailed, noisy, and intricate volumes.
