- do more searching here and at od - use google with Houdini in the search as the seach function here is crap - and you'll find many threads just like this one where people have offered advice on learning Houdini
- read the help card for all the objects and SOPs - open all the example files and poke around to see how they are built and what they do - nodes that have a name in blue contain comments, just MMB on them to read the comment
- there are plenty of tutorials here and many free ones (3dbuzz, Quint's, etc) do the one that interest you the most and when you run into problems start a thread here and ask for help
- give yourself a REASONABLE project - model a table or a coffee mug etc etc, then texture and shade it, then light and render it…then smash it and set it on fire (DOPs) - make it SIMPLE and REASONABLE, you'll learn a lot from actually trying to do something real, you'll learn nothing if you try to do something crazy that you've seen in a movie, because you'll never finish it and you'll be very frustrated…
- hip files (here and at od are great for learning - download them and look through them like you did with the supplied example files - DON'T expect to understand everything right away…just try to get a general idea of how Houdini users think and the way they approach problems.

I started learning with digital tutors introduction but it was to bad for me. So i learned with the 3dBuzz fast track training and that was really the good way to start for me. Very complete and very deep.
After those dvd i think you are completely independent on Houdini and you can keep learning by yourself.
The peter quint videos are good help too.
All tutorials for houdini (i think) can be find here: http://www.papicrunch.net/GC-houdb/ [papicrunch.net]
