This is the first time I am experiencing striations in a render. I took a partial screengrab of the image that was produced from mantra and as you can see the shadows and some of the geometry is not shaded smoothly.

What do I need to adjust in my file to get it to render properly?

Shadow Bias issue?

Are you using raytraced or depth map shadows on your lights?
There's at least one school like the old school!

thanks for replying jeff, i am using ray traced shadows on one of the most recent builds but i have put together a similar lighting situation before and this never happened until now. ive never heard of shadow bias but the render makes it look like overlapping geometry which might be a similar principle?

Tips :- 1 frame your objects tighter within the bound of the light . 2:- Mantra rop > shading tab , adjust the raytracing bias . The scale of your scene objects will effect the this value.

Thank you Houdini guru/circusmonkey. That setting in the Mantra ROP served very well to adjust. I knew there was something I had to do but I was adjusting the wrong parameters in the wrong places.

I appreciate you and jeff responding to my basic question.
