When saving the cache as .bgeo or .sim files, is it a good idea to compress them by saving as .bgeo.gz or .sim.gz files?

There is a slight i/o increase with .gz files, but the advantage of disk-space-savings outweighs it. However, I'd only recommend this in a large pipeline, simply because that's where you'll see the biggest bang for your buck.

I think it's best to do your own tests. We've also seen cases where zip compression slows the output down by as much as 5 times.
