I'm looking to create a transition of one material to another.
Much like seen here http://youtu.be/Jz-7Di2s4yY?t=56s [youtu.be]

I've been pondering about it, and can't really find a solution.
Is attribtransfer the solution?
Any help would be very appreciated

thanks~

Hi,
very cool video!. There's lots of things you could do, first off do post some small tests here so you can grow your ideas. You can easily do a on / off blend between point colours for starters. You could run a point down a curve and then do a attribute transfer to the points you have your objects copied to.

Getting more complex you could use a ramp driven by an attribute to switch between diffuse colours in a shader which could work on a per object basis. You would just need to create a few variables in Vops.

In fact the idea seems so much fun Ive made a simple vop based system to drive the switching on point colours for you.

Glad you find it useful. There's tonnes of cool things you could do with Houdini for those sorts of videos.

alright, i've done a small mod to the file u gave me
the random coloring is now affected by a control x)

Onwards to the next part, which i guess would be the way the color spreads itself slowly across the surface?
Any tips on how I can get started on that?

If you wanna growth color over hole surface on each frame like the Video (on time 00:58) ,So you can use Point Clouds :idea:

Just check attached project :wink:

To make Red all of the points you should just increase “Search radius” in the
JK_Growth->dopnet1->sopsolver1->vopsop1 :wink:
