I've copied geometry to the points of a wire coming from DOPs. The geometry copies fine but I can't get the geometry to orient itself according to the point normal on the wire points (set to the tangentu).
It seems like a perfect solution for the SOP Solver but I couldn't get that to work. Any advice would be much appreciated. Specifically I don't think I understand what DOPs is doing to the point normals or why I can't reset them to the wire tangent coming from DOPs?

It's because the output curve has the “orient” attribute. When the Copy SOP sees the “orient” attribute, that attribute has precedence over the N and up attributes. That's why there's no effect when you tried to change the N and up attributes. So if you want to control the orientation with N and up, you'd have to delete the “orient” attribute.
