Hello people!

I am buying a laptop workstation to use while traveling for a few months later this year and I don't know if I should buy a laptop with a Quadro or a GTX card in it.

What are the pros & cons? (price excluded)

Does Houdini run better in general on Quadro cards?

Also, feel free to drop some laptop recommendations if you have any! Debating with myself whether I should go for a Dell Precision 7710 or a Razer Blade Pro.

Best regards

Oh thanks!

Looked through the forum before posting but I didn't find that post.

May I ask about your opinion on RAM? is 64gb basically required?

Hi Simon,
more ram more fun.
64gb is not too much! You will need it.
I wish i had 128.

I'd echo what Olaf said.

When I got my system it was before I started using Houdini and only has 16Gb.

My Motherboard only supports up to 64Gb.

If I could change my system I would get a motherboard that supports 128Gb.

I would also move over to a Linux based system like Centos ( even if it takes a bit of tinkering with the drivers ).

The reason…the way windows manages memory is not good compared to a linux based system.

I don't know if this is the only benefit of running on a Linux system, but on windows one aspect is that it doesn't release memory very well ( In regards to Houdini ).

You may be rendering out some sequences or something similar like running a sim, and then when your done, that memory that was used stays ‘taken up’ unless you close Houdini and do a re-start.

Hi.Definitely more GB is better than less. I was thinking about new laptop not so long ago and had the same dilemma, unfortunately, i forgot about having a new laptop due to bad health issues, not the only thing that I'm able to do is to spend a lot of time on pharmacy reviews [pharmacyreviews.md]. So happy you have this opportunity!
