Hair / Fur grooming crashes.

Hey guys, I'm experiencing a LOT of crashes when grooming hair / fur (set length / Paint length atm) in Houdini 16.0.504.20. Is there some known bug / issue? I'm not doing anything crazy but just trying to add several layers of set / paint length and animate that length as well, but Houdini is crashing randomly way to often for me to go on working.

Any idea what's up?

Cheers,

A.

504.20 has many issues. Try a newer build.

I've tried this in your scene and couldn't reproduce it with any build. I would recommend that you move up to the recently released production build 16.0.557 regardless.

Is it /obj/mustache_isolated1_groom/groom/paint_scalefactormax you were painting?

I have to make sure it's compatible with Redshift, but thanks for the reply.

And it was when grooming / setting length to anything, not just one Hair / Fur object in particular.

Not going to be an option. First IPR render and crash.

What's in your crash log?

To tell you the truth i'm not sure where to find that crash log. Noobs here. I checked C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp, but couldn't find any file that seemed related to my crash.

Here is a simple scene with Redshift 2.5.05 and Houdini 16.554, and it crashes on IPR render instantly.

Either way, the issues i'm having with Hair / Fur in 16.504.20 that i was trying to resolve by moving up to 16.557, are still taking place in 557 anyway, so i'm in real trouble now, as pre-production or not i do need to start delivering some hair / fur attemps and it's a real pain to move forward with such shaky workflow.

The second sticky post in the forum is relevant here: https://www.sidefx.com/forum/topic/15603/ [sidefx.com]

It should be in the same directory as where it says it saved the crashed scene. ie. C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Temp\houdini_temp. Look for something named “crash” and has the “.txt” extension.

Looks like Redshift isn't compatible with any current builds. I think the last build it worked with was around ~540. The release build is still available, and I know Redshift had a version compatible with that one.
