Hi,

I've been searching for a web site where I can purchase and download simple low-poly characters for use in crowd simulations inside Houdini.

Mixamo is a great resource for creating FBX walk cycles, but their choice of characters is limited.

Am I able to import Unity assets into Houdini?

Something like this: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/characters/humanoids/lowpoly-medieval-characters-59770 [assetstore.unity.com]

Thanks,

Jim

This does seem to be an empty wasteland. I have spent the last week looking for animated characters I can use in a crowd sim.

The problem with Unity store is there is no way to download the asset. My only option is to Open In Unity. The files could be used in Houdini if only they could be located. Your link shows they are FBX files.

You can test the renderpeople free offerings.

Overall the basic price for a rigged person with clothing and hair seems to be ~ $120.00.

I have been looking into the Manuel Bastioni [www.manuelbastioni.com] addon for Blender. It allows you to create unique humans and install a mocap into them. From there you can export as FBX and import into Houdini. This leaves you with a character with no clothes or hair, however.

For mocap options I did find.

So the real task is how to get mocap driven characters with clothes generated?

What about DAZ 3D?
Has some basic animated cycles build in, too.

(ok, foot angle is little bit… unusual…)

Daz3D, iClone, makehuman…Fuse (not sure if you can export to FBX etc)
I think the question is what do you want? just a naked mesh, a clothed character, a clothed and rigged character, a clothed and rigged character that already has animations?
There really isn't an obvious full workflow for those outside of a studio environment.
