How can I get the outer border of a combined shape?

I have a grid and a closed circle combined into a shape, and need to find their outer border.
I'm only a couple months in to learning Houdini, and I've spent the last couple of days trying different ideas, searching for tips, and looking for that "magic node that I haven't yet heard of" to solve this in a simple way, with no luck.
Any ideas?

The example solution did get me closer. However, when one of the components of the Boolean is a grid, the method still doesn't clip away the borders that cross inside the grid.
I've enclosed a simplified version of the example you linked me to with a grid as one of the shapes to illustrate the problem.
Does the example only work for curves?
