Is it possible to go dive inside a shipping shader like the polka dot using the vex editor ? I just wanted to see how some things had been achieved to use in other shaders

Most of the old default SHOP shaders available in the network are written in code and do not use VOPs.
If you go to the material editor, add some new materials to the scene (by draggng the from list of available shaders over to the right hand side to install them) then go find the added material in /shop.
Those you can dive in to as they are all comprised of VOPs.
